SERVICES
Advocacy.
African Services advocates for public policy that ensures immigration reform and quality and affordable health care for undocumented people. With a focus on immigrants, refugees, and asylees from across the African Diaspora, the agency also advocates for the rights of people living with HIV.
To further empower our constituency, African Services builds the leadership capacity and engagement of our clients through in-house training, issue education, and community conversations. ASC engages media in opportunities to highlight the lives and key issues of the African Diaspora immigrant community.
We form strategic partnerships and alliances with legal and health advocates to advance campaigns and policies that directly impact the communities we serve. The agency participates in several city and state coalitions, committees, and campaigns. African Services sits on the New York City HIV Planning Council, is a member of New York Immigration Coalition’s Immigrant Leaders Council, and serves on the Steering Committee of Health Care for All New York (HCFANY). African Services is regularly asked to speak on panels and at press conferences, testify at City Council hearings, and emcee community marches and rallies.
