  • African Services Committee provides a range of services for immigrants, refugees, and asylees making a new start in New York City. Our health, housing, legal, social welfare, education, nutrition, and advocacy services are a resource for anyone in need.

  • Yes. ASC provides medical interpretation through our hospital escort and HIV care and support programs. ASC is also contracted to provide interpretation services at hospitals and clinics throughout the city. Languages spoken by staff include French, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Amharic, Abbey, Attie, Bambara, Baoule, Balengou, Bemba, Dioula, Dogon, Douala, Fulani, Kiswahili, Luvale, Luganda, Mandingo, Malenke, Medumba, Moghamo, Nyanja, Pulaar, Russian, Rukiga, Ruoro, Runyankore, Senoufo, Serere, Soninke, Tiggriggna, Tonga, and Wolof.

  • Yes. ASC offers English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESOL) classes and literacy instruction at basic ESOL levels.

  • Yes. ASC’s HIV case management program provides supportive services for families with an HIV diagnosis. In some cases, ASC may be able to provide general counseling and mediation to other families in need.

  • Yes. ASC’s walk-in testing center offers free and confidential testing for HIV, COVID-19, STIs, TB, Hepatitis B & C, pregnancy, and more.

  • Yes. ASC’s walk-in testing center also offers free testing for COVID-19, TB, Hepatitis B and C, pregnancy, blood pressure, and diabetes.

  • No. All of ASC’s services are provided free of charge to anyone in need. ASC also helps clients without insurance to access additional free or low-cost care at hospitals throughout New York City.

  • Clients are referred to ASC’s partners at hospitals and clinics throughout New York City.

  • Most of ASC’s services are free. In some cases, there may be charges for testing and legal fees.

  • No. ASC’s services are open to all individuals regardless of ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, race, religion, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
