African Services has helped thousands of new arrivals from the African Diaspora secure the sustainable housing they need to promote health and stability for themselves and their families.
Housing Assistance Programs
Rental Program
African Services’ Housing services help eligible clients find stable, long-term housing in New York City. Staffed by a multilingual, experienced team, African Services’ rental program assists 175 clients with monthly rent. The housing team also works in close collaboration with programs across the agency to evaluate and assist eligible clients in applying for long-term housing benefits, such as HRA, STRAP, and RAP. Our housing team has years of experience navigating these systems.
Emergency Financial Assistance
The Emergency Financial Assistance (EFN) Program provides short-term, emergency assistance to individuals and families facing urgent financial hardships that may impact their housing stability. As a payee of last resort, the program supports essential needs such as rent arrears, utility assistance, broker fees, security deposits, and basic household items.

Housing Services for Chronically ill Clients
For Ryan White-eligible clients, the team also arranges housing-related services. These clients often suffer from a loss of income because they are too sick to work, face stigma and discrimination, and may not have the tools to navigate housing systems in New York City. Eligible clients are supported through both our healthcare and housing services to ensure they are receiving wraparound support.
