Press Release: African Immigrant Reactions to Obama Nomination
Tuesday, June 10, 2008--With Senator Barack Obama becoming the first black person to win a major party’s nomination for president, it is an exciting time for the American story. It is also a meaningful moment for Africans in the U.S. at a time when immigration is an uncertain part of that story. African immigrants see themselves and opportunity in Obama’s rise and also reflect on the possibilities for U.S. policy in Africa. “He can be a vehicle of change even on the Continent…Hope, aspiration and ambition make many things possible.” Read on for more reactions

The Reverend Calvin O. Butts Visits African Services in Ethiopia
In September, Reverend Calvin O. Butts of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem visited African Services' Shola Market clinic in Addis Ababa. The Reverend and 150 members of the church made the historical visit to Ethiopia, its spiritual homeland, in honor of Abyssinian's bicentennial celebration. ASC staff and founder Asfaha Hadera had a chance to meet with Reverend Butts and share with him our work in HIV prevention, testing and care in Ethiopia.
